Description
A good .577 cal Snider Enfield Cavalry carbine. The lock with cup faced hammer is marked 1864 Enfield with crown broad arrow ordnance ownership mark and crowned V.R. to the tail. Walnut stock with regulation brass furniture (butt trap cover missing from butt plate), has opposed broad arrow 'sold out of service' mark to one side and (South African?) unit markings of S.A.C.C. & R.C.C. to the other. 19.25" barrel (Birmingham proofed) with short carbine rear sight, is fitted with a locking Mk3 breech block with Snider patent mark. In good condition with good to very good five grooved rifled bore. Good mechanical order, nice sharp wood with no splits or cracks and clear markings. Some original blue to barrel near breech and good blue/brown patina to rest of metalwork with some old, very light exterior pitting to barrel. A nice example of this hard to find carbine. NOTE: OBSOLETE CALIBRE - NO LICENCE REQUIRED
